Dembélé
Djeli - Ségou, Mali

The Dembélé
Djeli are
a band that plays the traditional music of Segou, in Mali. They
are young griots of Bobo ethnic background,
that
play and make their own instruments, according to ancient
tradition (balafon, kora,
n'goni, calebasse, bara, djembé, dun dun, n'tamani, etc.).
At the age of three all Bobo griots
start their education to become the troubadours of their caste.
I as was fortunate to attend and assist
at some of their beautiful concerts,
where one remains fascinated by their masterful technical skills and the rhythm, and by the sweetness of their
voices
and melodies:
n'goni
and balaphon speak their own language...!
The Dembélé Djeli currently
perform in several cities in Mali
and they played at the Festival sur le Nigerin Segou.
, The Dembélé Djeli band
consists of the following
musicians:
Every member of the group can to play all the
instruments.
The composition of the band varies from 2, 3, 4 up
to 9 persons. The Dembélé Djeli
are available for concerts,
courses and workshops in Mali and all over Europe.
